I thought of Matt. I thought of Yael. I thought of the decision I'd made on the plane to finally accept what I already knew in my heart to be true. I thought of the verse about what true love looks like—laying down your life for others.

Other believers had suffered in this country. Others had died at these hands, and hands like them. Jesus had suffered far worse. He had suffered and bled and died for her. For her sins. To set her free. To adopt her as a child into His family. To bring her into His Kingdom. Forever. How could she not be willing to suffer and bleed and die for Him? When you serve others, you are serving God. When you do it for them, you're doing it for Him. Jesus said, "If you give a cup of cold water to someone in need, you will surely be rewarded." Every time you serve, God sees it. Every time you help someone else. Every time you sacrifice--you go out of your way to pick up a friend, you get up early to sing in the choir, you stay late to help a coworker--God is keeping the record.

I love what Jesus said in Luke 19:29-30: "Everyone who has given up house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the Kingdom of God, will be repaid many times over in this life" (NLT). Notice it doesn't say when you get to heaven God will bless you. It says, right here on the earth, if you give up anything for God's sake, He will reward you more than you can even imagine.

Father, thank You that Your love is the real love that I need to change my life. Thank You that You sent Jesus as a sacrifice to take away my sins that I might receive Your love as a gift. I receive it now, and I believe I am the one whom You love. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

First John 4:10 says, "This is real love—not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

God sees everything. He's keeping the records. The Scripture says, "What you do in secret, God will reward in the open." Don't worry if you're not getting credit. Don't get discouraged if people don't thank you. God sees your sacrifice.

Father, I know that You are a giver, and I want to be like You. Please help me to hold loosely those things You have placed in my hands, and help me to always be ready to give to others in the same way You have given to me.
